Vito: The safety concept
The Mercedes Vito has a safety concept that makes it stand out from the crowd. It has shown that even in the Van market, it can put the needs of its users first. Adaptive ESP comes as standard with all Mercedes Vito Vans. Adaptive ESP is the latest generation of ESP technology and now factors in the load in the vehicle when enhancing the vehicles stability. Adaptive ESP along with the Vito's many other active safety features combine with the vans passive safety systems to provide outstanding levels of protection for its occupants. For users that tow frequently, there is an optional trailer stability system that automatically applies the brakes in a fashion to stabilise a trailer that is starting to swing. |

The Vito - A "Safetyplus Vehicle"
DEKRA and TUV, two independant testing organisations have awarded the Mercedes Vito the "Safetyplus Vehicle" certificate. This certificate is awarded to vehicles that set an example by passing a series of standard tests and have exemplary passive and active safety features. To qualify the Vito met specific standards including being fitted with disc brakes, ABS, ESP and load securing rings. It also had to pass dynamic vehicle handling tests for example when changing lanes or braking on bends.

- Adaptive ESP (Electronic Stability Program) in combination with ABS (Antilock Braking System), ASR (Acceleration Skid Control), BAS (electronic brake force distribution and brake assist)
- Disk brakes fitted all round
- All seats are fitted with three point seat belts. Driver and passenger seats also have belt tensioners
- Full-size driver airbag is fitted as standard
- Passenger and dual front passenger airbags can be specified as an option.
- Optional window bags and thorax bags for driver and front passenger

- Safety designed body with high strength load bearing members
- Safety steering column
- Large tail lights
- A range of bulkheads, partitions and cargo retention grilles are available
- Safety orientated features such as navigation and Parktronic (parking and manoeuvring aid) are available as options
- Optional anti theft alarm can be specified both with or without interior monitoring
- Tyre pressure montioring can be specified as an option.
