Have used van values peaked?
Used van prices have reached a plateau of around £3,500 after falling back to £3,468 in June from £3,595 in May, according to British Car Auctions. Values remain well ahead of the low point of £2,772 for last December, but are conversely some way off the January 2008 peak of £3,868.
BCA’s figures also show that for fleet and lease vans and part-exchange vehicles in June, the nearly new sector improved by £597 to £9,158.
Duncan Ward, the company’s business development manager for commercial vehicles, reports that buyers at auction are paying the best prices for vehicles boasting an enhanced ‘retail-style’ specification – eg, metallic paint, uprated interior trim, in-van entertainment, air-con with bulkhead and SatNav.
He said: “With increasing numbers of small businessmen and women striking out on their own, many are prepared to invest that bit more to get the best specified commercial vehicle they can afford. There is always competitive bidding when a well-presented panel van is offered with metallic paint and lots of retail-style options.”
