GOOD NEWS FOR VAN OWNERS

The Government have announced additional funding of £100m to the vehicle Scrappage scheme.

Alongside the increased funding the Government will work with manufacturers to extend benefits to van owners with vehicles over 8 years old rather than the 10-year requirement.

Van owners will get a boost, with the age qualification changed by 30 months. Any van registered on or before 28 Feb 2002 will be eligible. (51 registration).

So far 227,750 orders have been placed through the vehicle Scrappage scheme. The increase in funding enables the scheme to fund a further 100,000 vehicles bringing the total budget to £400,000 million and covering up to 400,000 vehicles.

Lord Mandelson told the Labour conference "Our car Scrappage scheme has been so successful the money is running out."  He said "The industry has asked that the scheme be topped up - we cannot do everything but that does not mean doing nothing. So today I am extending our popular car Scrappage scheme with extra money for an additional 100,000 cars and vans."

The government will work with manufacturers to implement the new changes and these will come into effect as soon as possible. The Scrappage scheme figures are updated on a weekly basis on the BIS website, where you can also find more information about the changes to the scheme.

Drivers are given £2,000 to trade in their vehicles - the grant is made up of £1000 from the government with matched funding from vehicle manufacturers. S&B Commercials carry out all the paperwork and arrange for the old vehicle to be scrapped. We will also ensure that the vehicle being traded in and the new one being bought qualify under the scheme.
