Used van prices rally in August

The average value of used vans increased by £99 in August over July to £4,211, halting a three-month decline according to the latest report from British Car Auctions.

It is the first sign of value improvement for the used light commercial vehicle sector since the spring, which BCA believes underlines the return of seasonal trends to the marketplace.

However Duncan Ward, BCA's general manager for commercial vehicles said that buying was "still selective, with well-specified vehicles in good condition outperforming the market by a considerable margin. There is little appetite for vans requiring refurbishment or repair. High mileage and scruffy condition is a major turn-off, unless the vehicle is a rare and desirable specification."

Businesses running light commercial vehicles needed to take note of this as we head into the autumn, he said: "While there is a temptation to hold onto vehicles rather than incur the cost of change, they could lose out in the long-run if the vehicles are sold in poor condition with too high mileage."
