Low Emission Zone – van owners urged to act now

The London Low Emission Zone its coming.
There is not long to go before new Low Emission Zone standards are introduced in London to improve air quality, and Transport for London is calling on van owners to take action now by registering at www.tfl.gov.uk/lezlondon.

Owners and operators of larger vans, minibuses or specialist vehicles, over ten years old in 2012, will need to show they meet Euro 3 emissions standards for particulate matter. Or, if they drive within Greater London, they will have to pay a £100 daily charge or risk a £500 penalty.

Any vehicles that don't meet these new LEZ standards now will need to take appropriate action and register the vehicle with TfL before 3 January 2012. There are a number of options available to ensure compliance with the scheme, including:

• Fitting a filter to the vehicle to improve the emissions – TfL recognises accredited filter modifications from across Europe.
• Purchasing a newer vehicle.
• Reorganising the fleet so that only vehicles which meet the required emissions standards drive within the LEZ.
• Paying the daily charge.

Owners and operators are urged to take action and register their vehicle with TfL now to prove their vehicles meet the emissions standards.
