The Low Emission Zone (LEZ) is changing!
The current emission standards of the LEZ are changing from 3rd January 2012, meaning many more vehicles will be effected.
If your Mercedes Truck or Van is not compliant, you have two options: have a diesel particulate filter fitted to your existing vehicle to bring it up to LEZ standards, or replace your vehicle. The clocks are going back in a couple of weeks and as nights draw in early, it’s important to make sure that your Mercedes Van or Truck is illuminated correctly. Stone chips and parking bumps to your lights and lenses may have occurred during the summer months and you’ve been putting off getting them fixed, but now is the time to do it when you’ve still got the daylight to see what your doing! Your van must be illuminated correctly at night for safety reasons and must be MOT legal at all times of the year.

One of the great advantages of having cruise control fitted to your Mercedes Van is that you can concentrate on the road ahead of you without having to constantly keep an eye on the speedometer. There are cameras everywhere these days all waiting to punish a momentary lapse of concentration, making the honest driver have to constantly check how fast he’s going.
When I drive with cruise control on, I often find that I end up at my destination much more relaxed. I often pass motorists as they tend to slow down a bit when they start to climb a hill until they realise and creep slowly back up to the speed limit. It’s not really until you have driven with this feature that you realise how much others speed alters while they’re driving.
The Mercedes Van Cruise Control system has an additional feature (other than of course being able to maintain your speed). It is also able to limit your speed. This is ideal when you enter an area controlled by average speed cameras and the compact stop-start nature of congested traffic makes it unsuitable to use cruise control. You can easily set a limit whilst driving and the system will not allow you to exceed it unless you use one of its override “triggers”.

ECOstart Demo Van
Available on the Mercedes Sprinter van, the ECOstart option does just that. A clever bit of kit switches off the engine when you’re stuck in traffic, and lets face it, that happens quite a lot these days. Now the sceptics amongst you are probably now saying “that’s not going to save a lot of money!” but you may be a bit surprised. In the literature for Ecostart, Mercedes-Benz claim that their vans fitted with ECOstart can pay back the cost of the option by saving fuel within 2 years, if the van averages around 25,000 miles pa.
In addition to the financial and environmental benefits, the option also cuts noise pollution and reduces driver fatigue. I must admit, when I borrowed our test drive model for the weekend at first I found the ECOstart experience quite disconcerting, but after a few engine stops you soon get used to it and its quite pleasant when you pull up at the lights and the already quiet engine goes silent.
