Mercedes Sprinter Van gets greener with ECOstart

In today’s financial climate, we’re all trying to save a bit of money and if we can help the environment at the same time, that’s got to be a good thing hasn’t it?

Available on the Mercedes Sprinter van, the ECOstart option does just that. A clever bit of kit switches off the engine when you’re stuck in traffic, and lets face it, that happens quite a lot these days. Now the sceptics amongst you are probably now saying “that’s not going to save a lot of money!” but you may be a bit surprised. In the literature for Ecostart, Mercedes-Benz claim that their vans fitted with ECOstart can pay back the cost of the option by saving fuel within 2 years, if the van averages around 25,000 miles pa.

In addition to the financial and environmental benefits, the option also cuts noise pollution and reduces driver fatigue. I must admit, when I borrowed our test drive model for the weekend at first I found the ECOstart experience quite disconcerting, but after a few engine stops you soon get used to it and its quite pleasant when you pull up at the lights and the already quiet engine goes silent. It gets my vote for sure!  If you want to give it a try, get in contact with our sales team and they’ll book you in for a test drive.
