Vans and Trucks - Our History

S & B Commercials Plc was formed on Friday13 August 1982 when Ron Holmes, the Managing Director, organised a management buy-out from LEX Services Group. The Company was an ERF Truck Dealership serving the Greater London and Home Counties area. On completing the buy-out, the franchises for MAN and Volkswagen were added and these three franchises operated from the single site. Approximately 20 years ago these three franchises were relinquished and replaced by a single Mercedes-Benz franchise.

Nearly 12 years ago, at the request of Mercedes-Benz, S & B Commercials acquired the Spellbrook Company in Bishop's Stortford which was a car and commercial vehicle dealership. Seven years ago the franchise for Mercedes-Benz vehicles was awarded to S & B Commercials for a site in East London and premises were acquired in Essex (West Thurrock). When Ron Holmes was appointed Manager to run the ERF vehicle site in 1976 he was the 14th employee.  The total employee headcount for S & B Commercials today is over 300.
